A specific Pet Outfit can only be purchased if you have that type of Pet in your Pet Chest. Collector’s Pets already have unique skins and cannot wear any Pet Outfits despite sharing Species or Breeds with other Pets in game.

History[]

Early Concept of a Pet Cat.

Pets were originally planned to be added as microtransactions in 2018, 3 months after Sea of Thieves release, however due to the community’s concerns regarding the state of the game at release, Rare chose to rework their Content Update roadmap and postpone Pets in order to focus their efforts on releasing several free campaigns and updates.
By 2019, Rare had announced that Pets would be arriving as part of a Mega Update, later renamed the Anniversary Update, to mark the game’s One Year Anniversary. However, due to feedback from Player testing on their Insider Programme, Rare once again postponed Pets to work on bugs and user interactions.
A few months later, Rare finally deemed Pets ready, and they were released as part of the Pirate Emporium grand opening in the September 2019 Content Update, Smuggler’s Fortune.
The release came with two species types of both Monkeys and Parrots, offering a variety of colours to choose from. With The Seabound Soul Content Update, 2 new species of pets were added: the Marmoset and Cockatoo. 3 species of Cats were added during the Ships of Fortune Update: the Wildcat, Ragamuffin, and Mau. The September 2020 Vaults of the Ancients update introduced Dogs like Alsatians, Whippets and Inus to The Sea of Thieves.

Mechanics[]

Ghost Ship leaves behind Ghost Mines when in front of Player Ships.

Trajectory

Ghost Ships assemble in a fleet circling a single Large Island in group formations. These ships don’t stray from their trajectories and keep circling on, phasing through obstacles like rocks or Ships.

Combat

A Ghost Ship will shoot Ghostly Cannonballs at any player ships in their firing range and leave behind Explosive ghostly Mines when ships are behind them.

Collision

A Ghost Ship can be damaged by any Cannon-fired projectiles—even from inside—creating holes in the apparition. During «collision», the player ship will be deal continuous damage to the Hull.

Teleport

Sometimes when a Ghost Ship sails too far away, it will portal into a closer position of its enemy.

Shockwave

When a Ghost Ship is defeated, it will explode with a shockwave that will knock back nearby ships (except other Ghost Ships).

Notes

• Ghost Ship is not damaged by collisions of any kind (whether it be a ship or an island), nor does it take damage from Gunpowder Barrels.
• Ghost Ship cannot be damaged during transit through a portal.
• Ghost Ship can and will fight Skeleton Ships.
• Ghost Ship starts releasing ghostly particles when badly damaged.

Rules[]

Sea of Champions ran on basic Arena rules.

• 15 minute match.
• 5 Sloops, 2 players to each Sloops.
• 150 Silver for discovering a Sea Dog Chest, 1000 for delivering a Chest.
• 5 Silver for a player kill, 40 Silver for a Cannon hit on an enemy Ship.
• -1000 Silver for your Ship sinking.

Code of Conduct

Sea of Champions is designed to amplify the spirit of friendly competition. Under no circumstances will bad sportsmanship, discrimination, harassment, or cheating be permitted. If this behaviour is witnessed by staff during or outside of the event, Sea of Champions retains the right to block individuals from future participation. By signing the document, a person agrees to the following:

1. Players will not attempt to misuse or tamper with the Sea of Champions accounts provided, including but not limited to fraudulent and malicious behaviour.

2. Players will not use discriminatory, hateful, or pervasive language.

3. Players will not discuss any illegal activities.

4. Players will not harass, bully, intimidate, or threaten other contestants.

5. Players will not cheat or use unintended game exploits to gain an unfair advantage.

6. Players will broadcast their participation on Mixer, Twitch, or Facebook to verify their compliance with this agreement, and permit Sea of Champions to use their broadcast during the event period for the purpose of spectating the event on the official Sea of Champions platforms.

● Exploits that might allow a contestant to increase their natural movement speed greater than what is intended.

● Exploits that might expand a contestant’s inventory greater than what is intended (inventory glitch).

● Cheats that might enable ESP, teleportation, God mode, invulnerability, etc.

Points

Points were given to teams based on their final position on the ladder of each round:

• 1st Place = 10 Points
• 2nd Place = 8 Points
• 3rd Place = 6 Points
• 4th Place = 4 Points
• 5th Place = 2 Points

The Lost Shipment Voyage introduces several new items that can be sold or used as elements in the voyage.

Trade Route Map

At the start of the voyages, the crew is given a map detailing the ship’s trade route across a stretch of the sea. As clues are discovered, their sites are marked on the map for reference. The map is a general guide to the Merchant Alliance approved trade route, from which the lost shipment’s crew may have significantly deviated from.

Ship Logs

Ship Logs are similar to those seen at the beginning of The Shroudbreaker Tall Tale. Logs are added to the Quest Radial where a crew can read the log. The log will contain a random selection of log entries that will lead to a random coordinate, island, or other landmark. The last log entry is often the most important one to pay attention to.

Upon reaching a clue site, players may find another log, the shipwreck, Merchant Barrels of Plenty, or the Captain’s Key. Clue sites will often be accompanied by several abandoned Trade Good Crates.

Captain’s Key

The Captain’s Key can be found at one of the Clue Sites identified by Ship’s Logs. The Captain’s Key unlocks the Captain’s Quarters at the Merchant Shipwreck associated with the particular Lost Shipment Voyage. Although all Captain’s Keys have an identical appearance, only the Captain’s Key associated with the voyage can be used to unlock the Captain’s Quarters aboard that shipwreck. All Clue Sites will despawn after the Merchant Manifest has been discovered and picked up, concluding the voyage. The Captain’s Key can be sold to any Merchant Alliance representative if not used to unlock a ship.

Cooking and the Hunter’s Call[]

Each defeated Kraken tentacle drops a piece of Kraken Meat. This meat can be cooked and eaten or sold to The Hunter’s Call. Like Megalodon Meat, cooked Kraken meat can be eaten twice, replenishes 100% health and gives half a circle of health regeneration. Under-cooked Kraken meat replenishes 90% health without giving regeneration and Burnt Kraken meat only restores 11% of the pirate’s health. Kraken meat takes about 2 minutes to fully cook. The easiest way to tell when it’s fully cooked is to look at the outer skin with the suckers. Selling 50 pieces of Kraken meat at Seaposts earns the player The The Hunter of the Monstrous Beast Commendation for The Hunter’s Call, which unlocks a Kraken Themed Facepaint Makeup for purchase at any Clothing Shop.

Summary[]

The crew will be given a Trade Route Map charting the route taken by a lost Merchant galleon. The objective of the mission is to follow the path, retracing the lost ship’s journey. Along the way are various clue sites from the merchant vessel:

• Merchant Barrels of Plenty: Several normal barrels with a Merchant Barrel among the normal barrels that contains a clue, often a Ship Log. These can be located by watching for flocks of seagulls circling overhead.
• A clue in a bottle floating in the water.
• A washed-up wreckage on an island or fort beach that contains a clue in a bottle.
• An island (or seapost) NPC that can provide a clue.

At all of these sites, there may be leftover Trade Good Crates, but only one of these sites contains the Captain’s Key, which will unlock the Captain’s Quarters onboard the sunken ship.

Near the trade shipment’s calculated destination, there will be a shipwreck with an intact (immobile and neutral) skeleton corpse cradling a Merchant Manifest. The voyage completes once the manifest is retrieved, and all clue sites will despawn, including the Captain’s Key if it has not been obtained.

Plunder Pass

Purchasing the Plunder Pass will grant players access to Pirate Emporium items and additional Ancient Coins as Season Four Rewards. These cosmetic items are early-access items that will be released at a later date after the Season ends.

Encounter[]

There is a musical cue and the water around the ship darkens when the Kraken attacks. Ship movement in the dark water is minimal, but not halted. Drowning speed is dramatically increased in the inky waters.

Kraken arms will spawn in the area, the crew must kill enough arms to defeat the Kraken, or survive long enough.

There are 4 «types» of arms to the Kraken:

• «Inhaler» arms make a wind graphic on the deck and suck a player up into the arm. To avoid getting sucked in, go below deck or do damage to the open, inhaling «mouth» on a nearby tentacle. Once sucked, the player is rooted in the arm and it will occasionally slap them on the water’s surface, dealing a large amount of damage. Eventually, the arm will throw the player into the water a little ways from the ship. A trapped player can be freed early by damaging the arm or harpooning out of its mouth.
• «Tangling» arms wrap around the body of the ship, with the head of the wrapped tentacle popping out of the water close to either side of the ship or laying onto the deck of the ship. The wrap immobilizes the ship and causes holes in the hull over time and pulls the ship lower, causing some holes to take in water faster. Damaging the head of the wrapping tentacle is the quickest way of releasing the wrap. Gun and sword damage will cause it to splash poisonous Kraken blood on nearby attackers. Damaging the main body wrap on the deck can also release the wrap, but takes longer and may inflict poison damage.
• «Slapping» arms quickly spawn and slap hard against the side of the ship, causing movement and damage similar to a Gunpowder Barrel.
• «Target» arms just float around sticking straight up for players to shoot, rewarding loot upon being slain.

When the encounter is resolved, the inky water rapidly retreats away toward a horizon.

The Kraken has special durability scaling if it is summoned under a Sloop, tentacles spawn with lower health and higher damage reduction.

Land Locations[]

Outposts

Main article: Outposts

Outposts are the main inhabited Islands of The Sea of Thieves, housing a Tavern, various Shops, Trading Company Representatives, Emissary Tables for the companies and a port for a crew’s Ship. Every game session begins and mostly ends at an Outpost as this is where players can acquire Voyages or turn in their Treasure for rewards. There are no natural Enemies on Outposts apart from enemy Pirates who may want a part of the crew’s hard earned Treasure and Resources.

Athena’s Fortune Hideout

Inside the Taverns of every Outpost, those who know the Shanty of Legends may gain access to the hidden Athena’s Fortune Hideout, where only Pirate Legends are accepted. This Hideout is the main hub for the Athena’s Fortune Trading Company, who offer Legendary Pirates Legendary Voyages and Legendary Cosmetics.

Seaposts

Main article: Seaposts

Seaposts are small rock Islets with a single Trader’s Shop each who offer 5% discounts on a selection of three random items that change every midnight. Seaposts also house the Representatives for The Hunter’s Call Trading Company who peddle in rare or common Fish and Meat.

Fortresses

Main article: Fortresses

Fortresses are highly fortified Watchtowers, similar in size to Outposts. Most of the time, these Fortresses are abandoned and are quiet with a large number of Barrels with ample Resources and even left-over Gunpowder Barrels. However, at any time, one of the Forts can be taken over by hordes of Skeletons during a Skull Fort World Event. These Skeletons, led by a Skeleton Lord, will man the fortifications and try to keep anyone away from their treasure filled Fortress Vault.

Fort of the Damned

The Fort of the Damned, previously Old Boot Fort, is a special Skeleton Fort shrouded in eternal Fog, where Player Crews can perform a ritual to summon the Ghost of Graymarrow, a Skeleton Lord who hides high value riches in the Fort’s Vault. To access the forts hidden treasures you must claim all six flames of fate and a ritual skull.

Islands are wild and uninhabited. There are three types of Islands Large Islands, Small Islands and Uncharted Islands. These can hide Barrels worth of left-over Resources and buried or forgotten Treasure. These Islands are home to natural Wildlife and even cursed Skeletons. These Islands are the main targets of Voyages issued by Trading Companies who dare not venture into these perilous locations themselves.

Uncharted Islands

There are a number of Islands in The Sea of Thieves that are as of yet not charted on any Maps. These Islands are not targeted by Voyages, however they may be inhabited by various people or even hide various legendary secrets that can only be accessed through investigating Tall Tales.

Sunken Shipwrecks

Shipwrecks are sunken ships that contain large quantities of Resources (even Fish & Meat!) and various types of sunken Treasure. These can be located by large flocks of Seagulls flying above them.

Sea Volcanoes

Main article: Volcanoes

In the Devil’s Roar, each Large Island is home to an active Volcano, however there are five additional documented Sea Volcanoes that can erupt at any time and easily take down any Ships in the vicinity. Most are positioned such that multiple small islands are within the range of their eruptions. Sea volcanoes can be found at X-12, V-15, Y-19, V-20, and Y-25.

The Ferry of the Damned

This Ghost Ship in the other world is the Locations where any dead Pirates of The Sea of Thieves are cursed to end up in after death. Any Pirate who is sent here will have to stay there until they are fit to be resurrected.

Tips[]
