Season of flight

Entering Eye of Eden

The Gate leading into Eye of Eden is different from all other Gates. Instead of indicating Ancestor Spirits, this one mandates a certain number of Winged Light (Children of Light). You can enter the Eye of Eden only after you have completed all the previous Realms (sat through their cutscenes) and collected at least 20 Winged Light.

Note: While only 20 Winged Light are required, it is highly advised to bring significantly more than that, as it is a difficult Realm to complete. Players who successfully bring large amounts of Winged Light through Eden will be handsomely rewarded with ascended candles.

Multiple players are no longer required to open the door to Eden. There are still five buttons to light, but they can be lit by a single person. That said, having a group of friends together in the final area (section 3 below) can help you all to maximize the rewards you receive in Orbit.

Ascended Candles and Wing Buffs

The Wing Buff as it appears in the Spirit Shops- Bowing Medalist

Ascended Candles are the reward for completing the Eye of Eden. There are a total of 63 Statues to visit, which give players 0.25 Ascended Candles each (total 15.75). With Ascended Candles, you can:

Unlock the ability to purchase more cosmetics. Purchasing the Wing Buff from a Regular Spirit Map and Travelling Spirit Map will remove the shroud of clouds that hides the uppermost cosmetics in the Map.

  • Lock in Wing Power. The purchased with these Candles will cause players to be reborn with more Winged Light. Specifically, players will be reborn with one more Winged Light per Wing Buff purchased. If every non-seasonal Spirit is «ascended», it is possible to be reborn with 47 Winged Light.

Unlock the ability to exchange advanced Friendship Actions with a friend, including Warp. Warp costs two additional Ascended Candles, while the other high level actions cost regular candles.

Cape Color Guide

The colors of the capes change slightly depending on the brightness of the level. The below photos were captured at Home during a sunset. All of the colors lighten a bit in bright daylight. The colors also change when the cape is draining (e.g., if you stand in the rain in Forest). You can check the effects of different lightings on the capes in the chart below.

  • Giving high five or hugs to friends, when first taking someone’s hand (fast)

  • Recharging with a prop (Torch, Brazier, Feast and Mischief Table) (slow)
  • Standing near or in candles or lanterns or getting light from dark plants (slow)
  • Standing in the sparkle left behind by a Child of Light (slow)
  • Carrying the light in spirit carry quests (slow)

Seasonal Expressions and Friend Actions

Seasonal Expressions change with every season. While actual seasons will never repeat, the Seasonal Spirits and their Expressions will eventually return one by one as Traveling Spirits.

As of the July 2021 update to the game, all base-level seasonal expressions are available to collect in each Realm. A player will still have to wait for the Seasonal Spirits to return as Traveling Spirits in order to collect their expression upgrades or cosmetics.

Season of Gratitude (Summer 2019)

The live version was the first season in which stances were part of Seasonal Spirit Expressions, which includes the Sassy stance. However, the beta/spring version lacks the spirit for it.

Season of Lightseekers (Autumn 2019)

This was the first season in which Friend Actions were part of the Seasonal Spirit Expressions. Upgraded Piggyback and Upgraded Double-five are Friend Actions in the Friend Menu rather than Expressions in the Expressions Menu.

Upgraded Hair Tousle is a Friend Action (in the Friend Menu) rather than Expression in the Expressions Menu.

Season of Rhythm (Winter 2019-20)

The Spirits in this Season originally appeared in the Beta and Limited Live versions of the game in Winter 2018. It was the first Seasonal Event that thatgamecompany experimented with. It then came to the Global Live (on iOS) version of the game in Winter 2019-20.

The Seasonal Update added the Forgotten Ark area in the Golden Wasteland.

The Seasonal Update added the Sanctuary Islands in Daylight Prairie.

Valley of Triumph

There are four message candle spots in Valley of Triumph:

  • , the Message Candle Spot lies high above the actual Ice, on a snowy hill overlooking the area. This is also where the «Hands on hips Stance» (Confident Sightseer) Spirit is found
  • Arch, this Message Candle Spot may be hard to spot without prior knowledge of its existence. It’s located on top of the arch leading into the Citadel
  • High above The Citadel, this Message Candle Spot can be found below the topmost ledge and the gazebo housing a Child of Light. It’s where the handstand Spirit finishes
  • , on the right side of the seats near the exit into the Temple

Maze

With the 0.7.0 update to the game, a new small area was added to the Temple. This is where the Season of Belonging Spirit was found, along with Seasonal Candles. A was also added here.

This area is a multi-level maze with an entrance gate on the left near the ground, and an exit up above, along the right-side wall as you enter. Entering via the Constellation gate at the bottom will require two Spirits from The Hidden Forest. Inside of the maze contains some areas with .

Section 1: Wind and Rocks

Eagle eye’s view, be cautious while flying in Eden

A map of Eden, made by Ezpz2020

This is the most recently added section of the Realm, and adds a scenic (if windy) trek up the mountain before entering the familiar hallway that leads to the older version of Eden. This is the safest and easiest part of the Realm, and gives you an idea of some of the strategy that will be used later on. It is always advised to play with sound on in Eden, as it will give players specific cues.
There are several shortcuts to take here, though one of them is only possible for truly accomplished fliers.

Shortcut 1: Go down to the floor of the first area, above which the rocks will be flying. By crossing over to the other side, players will find a climbable ledge. If ascended, players will find themselves past the streaming rocks – almost at the first lantern. See the «Suggested Route» Map under Other Resources below.

Shortcut 2 (five Wedges minimum): Truly daring players can use the powerful wind to fly directly up towards the entrance into the next section, where a Child of Light is standing. This is done by first activating open-winged flight at takeoff, flying against the wind in a diagonal manner, and letting the wind push the avatar back to land at the target location. However, this shortcut takes a huge amount of practice to master even for very experienced players. There are guide videos to find on Youtube.

Contents of the Office

The entrance into the Office proper

The Secret Area proper contains several rooms, such as various desks, a meeting area, lounging areas, and two bathrooms. There is a small hallway which contains an NPC in a blue cape who hints that the players can obtain their own Founder’s Cape from the store. There is a line of red candles near the entrance, and some stray pieces of light for the player to collect, leading to the NPC with the Founder’s Cape. There are a few Dark Crabs located here as well, although they are harmless and simply roam around.

Outside of the Office there is a four-seated car which works the same way as a Chat Bench. Players deposit or light a Candle, whereupon it is possible to sit and talk to strangers/friends in the car until the Candle burns out. There is also a strange, transparent jellyfish-like creature floating near the right side of the entrance to the building, which is more cartoony than the other Jellyfish in the game.

Two stairways are leading up to a second level of the building. On the left side of the second level you will find an office space with a blue screen studio and a green screen studio, a desk, a photographic camera, a video camera and a changing room. You will also find a large couch where you can chat with your friends if you deposit a candle.

Here’s how you can work better picture angles with the green and blue screen studio:

A camera guide by @ryumen_sky and @kateuno#7591

On the roof of the building is an open, grassy space and a Cannon, which requires players to light a Candle for it to work. Placing a regular White Candle creates a new Red Candle to light, which will launch the occupants of the Cannon into the air. There are some slanted windows on the outside of the building, one which is solid, and one which the player can fall through into the office space below.

Around the building are clouds and a large robotic creature can be seen walking around. Within the clouds is a floating rowing boat where players can sit and talk to each other – it functions like a large Chat Table with no time limit. Players do not need to place Candles to continue talking, unlike the car down below.

Sacrifice

You will lose all your winged light in Eye of Eden. This is part of the process. As you deposit Winged Light at each Statue, your Cape Power will decrease. However, the more Winged Light you deposit, the more rewards you will receive. Each Statue you free will grant you approximately 0.25 of an ascended candle. You can use these rewards to unlock in Spirit Shops (including Travelling Spirits), and eventually increase the starting number of Cape Wedges in your meter. The next time you die, your Wing Buffs you will give you extra winged lights. Unlike in previous versions of Eye of Eden, there is no surviving. There is only one outcome. The goal is to deposit as many Winged Light as you can before you lose all of your power and die.

There is a known glitch in which a player deposits their winged light, dies, then respawns next to the point of no return. Simply keep trudging toward a light column to stop the loop of respawning.

Wing Buffs

Eye of Eden
Please play through Eye of Eden at least once before reading this page/section as it will completely spoil the game for you.

Wing Buffs are additional Winged Light you acquire by ascending Spirits after going through Eye of Eden (Spoiler Warning). Every Spirit Shop has at least one Wing Buff you can buy with the Ascended Candles that you can get in Eden, represented by a wing lock icon (see image). Purchasing a Wing Buff will also unlock the clouded area of the shop, allowing players access to more advanced Cosmetics. There are 47 Wing Buffs you can get from regular (non-Seasonal) Spirits. You will need to have unlocked the items leading up to the Wing Buff in order to purchase it.

A wing lock

Beginning in February 2020 (Season of Rhythm), Traveling Spirits (Spirits from past Seasons) also offer Wing Buffs. See the Traveling Spirits page for more details.

Note: Wing Buffs are exchanged for Wing buff only in Orbit, at the end of Eden, so it’s advisable to spend your Ascended Candles before you are reborn (Either before you go to Eden or in the Constellation in Orbit) . If you buy them at the Constellation Table in Home Space or from the Traveling Spirits, you will only receive that Wing Buff when you go through Eden again. You do not receive it right after you buy one.

Nintendo Pack

Players on the Nintendo Switch have the option to purchase a new Starter Pack. This can only be purchased on the Switch Console. However, Switch players who have their progress transferred to a mobile device can also wear these items while playing on iOS or Android. Please note: Candles purchased on Switch do not transfer to mobile devices. They must be used on the platform they were purchased on.

Sliding Race

While this is still referred to as a «race,» the racing element has long been removed from the game. This race course, however, most resembles the original race that appeared in the early days of the beta, when players would race down the hills collecting butterfly lights.

The Race is a Candle Quest. It does not, however, matter how many of the fragments of light you catch during the race. You will always be rewarded with 150 pieces of wax (as long as it’s your first time completing the race for that day). Currently, collecting all of the lights and completely filling the orange meter in both the upper and lower areas of the race does not yield any additional reward.

Along this course you will also find one to collect during the race.

The Sliding and Flying Races meet near the end with an additional Child of Light on the course, leading to the same Coliseum.
