Mining
- Main article: Mining
Mining skill is increased by breaking rocks. Each level adds +1 to Pickaxe .
Mining skill points are awarded when rocks are destroyed — it doesn’t matter if this is done by Pickaxe, , or by the action of Monsters.
Different rock types give different numbers of experience points.

Humans
Humans make up the majority of ‘s population. Most humans live normal lives, however Wizards and Witches still exist and study ancient arcane energies.
Dwarves
Dwarves call themselves ‘Smoluanu’, or ‘Sky People’. They are known for living underground and once having advanced technology in ancient times. Archaeologist M. Jasper believes they are an alien race, as indicated in the Lost Book entitled . One dwarf can be found living in the The Mines while a second is running a in the Volcano Dungeon.
Shadow People
Shadow people are beings that cannot stand the light. They fought in the Elemental Wars when the Dwarves invaded their ancestral home deep underground. Humans also call them Void Spirits.

At the Night Market there is a Mermaid Boat, where upon entering, a mermaid will appear and begin singing to the player, accompanied by a cutscene. On rainy days a Mermaid will appear on the large rock by the shore of the Pirate Cove on Ginger Island. Very rarely, a green sea monster might appear under the left-most pier at The Beach and then swim south. This may or may not be a merperson. It is purely cosmetic and cannot be caught by fishing. Two merpeople appear in the perfection cutscene.
Tundra Dwellers
Referenced by Linus at the Festival of Ice, when he says «Igloo-building’s an art I picked up from the tundra dwellers who live beyond the frozen sea.»

Energy
Energy & Health
- Main article: Energy
Energy limits productivity. One of the main ways to overcome this is by eating food. Eating food is an action, for which default controls are Right Click or type X with the food highlighted in your inventory and then click Yes in the confirmation dialogue to eat the food. Most crops and many foraged items can be eaten in order to regain energy.
Sleeping at the end of the day will restore the players’ energy. After 12:00AM, the player won’t restore 100% of the energy. If the player is exhausted when they go to bed or forced sleep at 2:00AM, they’ll wake up in the morning with their energy level about half restored.
On Multiplayer, lying in bed will regain energy over time.
The Spa will fully restore energy over a short period of time.
Collection
Minerals do not have to be shipped or donated to the Museum to count towards the Collections Tab of the player menu. They only need to be picked up.
Note that minerals found in may not appear as found on the collections tab. Dragging the mineral outside the inventory window and allowing it to be taken back into inventory may correct this. Holding the mineral in inventory overnight may also correct this.
Note also that minerals’ descriptions appear on the collections tab as soon as they are found, even while the inventory description says «Gunther can tell you more about this if you donate it to the museum.»

Enchantments
- Main article:
Warning: Spoilers
This page or section contains unmarked spoilers from update 1.5 of Stardew Valley. Mobile players may want to avoid or be cautious toward reading this article. |
A random enchantment can be added to any weapon or tool, with the exceptions of the Copper Pan, Return Scepter, Scythe, and Golden Scythe. This costs one Prismatic Shard and 20 Cinder Shards.
Each weapon or tool can only have one enchantment, and the applied enchantment is random. However, another Prismatic Shard can be used to re-randomize it. Tools track the previous two enchantments applied to them so they’re not reselected when reapplying an enchantment.
Upgrading Tools will not remove enchantments already on them.
Enchantments are randomized based on the number of times any tool has been enchanted, so reloading the day and enchanting a different tool will change the progression.

Preserves Jar vs. Keg
The Preserves Jar increases the profit of a crop using the following equation: (2 × Base Crop Value + 50), while the Keg multiplies the base value of Fruits by 3, and most Vegetables by 2.25. Because of this, low-value high-yield crops like Corn or Tomatoes are more valuable in the preserves jar. The keg, on the other hand, favors crops with a much higher base value, such as Ancient Fruit or Melons. The breakpoint is 50g for fruits and 200g for vegetables.
Below is a list of crops that are more beneficial to be put in the keg, along with their raw base price. Boldfaced items have a base price above 200g.

It should be noted that these calculations only involve the value gained in terms of max profit; if looking at profit per day based on the time required, the preserves jar will outpace the keg regardless of the base value of the item (in every case except for Hops and Wheat) since the preserves jar has a much faster processing time.
