Running a server (basic installation)

The players

Your team mates in Sven Co-op (other players attempting the same mission) will commonly look similar to the figure on the right, though there are many character models to choose from. All players have exactly the same abilities as you, and can fight just as hard.

It is essential that you co-operate with your team mates, as most Sven Co-op levels are a lot harder than the original Half-Life missions with stronger enemies and more combat. You may also need to work with your team mates to solve puzzles or to activate certain buttons.

Communication with others helps ensure success, so before you play check your key setting for the Chat Message command (default Y) — better yet, if you have a microphone handy, use the control options menu to set a key for Use Voice Communication and hold the key in game to talk to team mates. Remember to use voice communication in respect of other players hearing!

  • You cannot hurt or kill your team mates. Consider any attempt to do so as a waste of ammunition.
  • Some maps require a player to be boosted up to a higher ledge. This is where one player will crouch down by the higher platform allowing another player to jump on top to reach the higher area. It helps if players are kind and offer to boost others when required.
  • To help with boosting, some maps enable a new feature called auto climbing. This is done by jumping against a wall of a higher area, and depending on the height of the area, you can boost yourself up on top of it.

Some players will have icons beside them on the score board. This denotes players who are donors or members of the Sven Co-op team as follows:

  • Donor ($5+) with electric crowbar extra.
  • Donor ($8+) with electric crowbar and gold Uzi extras.
  • Donor ($20+) with electric crowbar and gold Uzi extras.
  • Game contributor / internal tester.
  • Game artist (maps, models, sounds, etc)
  • Game developer / co-ordinator.

On the far right of the score board you may find players with the server administrator icon , which means this person helps run and maintain the game server you’re playing on. They are your first point of contact if you are having any trouble while playing on their game server. This icon may be tinted gold to signify that the person owns the game server.

Maps

They Hunger: Escape

  • Added a new room with a shotgun and a zombie cop ambush spawn to the alley next to the ambulance.
  • Added fold-able wooden barricades next to the burning tunnel debris, visible only when the tunnel is blocked. (Should make it more obvious that this is the only route through to the other side.)
  • Added fold-able wooden barricades to downtown sewer entrance if toolbox spawns there.
  • Added infinite spanner spawn to sewer next to where the toolbox sometimes spawns.
  • Added missing civilian models to the permitted player model list.
  • Added sewer labels to all three sewer tunnels surrounding the truck to prevent players getting lost so easily.
  • Added sewer steam to make the entrances more noticeable.
  • Added skill configuration, with level 1 being normal difficulty, and level 2 being hardcore:
    • Barney now does 2 points less damage with his pistol in both modes.
    • Bullsquid has less health and does 5 points less spit damage in normal mode.
    • Otis cops (sheriff included) now do 25 damage instead of 37 in both modes.
    • Snarks deal 5 damage per bite instead of 10 in normal mode.
    • Zombies do 5 less damage per swing and 10 less damage per double-swing in normal mode.
  • Added some lights to the map start room.
  • All downtown zombie spawns now use a «trigger_playercheck» master so that they aren’t turned on when no one is there.
  • Colt 1911 handgun now respawns infinitely in the police station / ambulance / radio station.
  • Deleted female zombie that kept getting stuck in church upper hallway.
  • Deleted ‘random civilian’ spawnpoint in the train station that wasn’t near any weapons.
  • Disabled a couple of debug messages in the scripts.
  • Extra minute is added to the time limit if the game is started with 4 or less players.
  • Fixed crappy brushwork with holes in it on the roof of the train station and the hallway connected to the church.
  • Fixed police tunnel roof being «func_detail», which made it so that everything in the tunnel rendered whenever you looked over at it from above.
  • Fixed some pretty bad cylinder face carving issues.
  • func_trackvehicle: Updated the script to match the recent API change.
  • Hardcore mode is now forced for 16+ players, rather than 10+.
  • In the «jail» lose cutscene, two players will now spawn in either cell and the rest will fall through the collapsing ceiling (only if there are any more than two living players at the end of the round, which is somewhat rare).
  • Made the unbreakable train depot door metal instead of wood so that dumb people don’t pound on it for days trying to break through.
  • Sewer treatment engineer 3 now spawns with a spanner.
  • Sheriff now spawns in both normal and hardcore modes, rather than just hardcore. Sheriff has less health in normal mode.
  • Umbrella in pawn shop now respawns infinitely.
  • Window glow in the gas station garage is slightly brighter, so that players can actually see the toolbox if it spawns there.

  • Полностью удаляете приложение, чтобы не осталось никаких папок и остаточных файлов.
  • Отключаете или лучше удаляете в системе антивирусную программу.
  • Теперь снова приступаете к установке приложения.

Отключите «Защитник Windows»

он тоже запросто может быть причиной появления этих ошибок

  • Открыть «Центр безопасности Защитника Windows» выбрать настройки
    нажать на раздел «Защита от вирусов и угроз».
  • После нужно нажать на «Управление настройки» в открывшемся разделе
    спуститься до пункта «Параметры защиты от вирусов и других угроз».
  • В новом окне отключаете «Защиту в режиме реального времени» и следом «Облачную защиту» чуть позже система вновь включить защитник, но у вас будет время
    проверить игру на наличие ошибки.
  • И если окажется, что проблема действительно заключается в «Защитнике Windows», тогда необходимо добавить
    exe-файл игры в список исключений этой программы.

Воспользуйтесь чистой загрузкой

  • Открываете в Windows 10 окно «Параметры», используя меню

  • Далее открываете раздел под названием «Приложения» переключаетесь
    на вкладку «Автозагрузка», где необходимо проблемный exe-файл и отключить его.

Проверьте целостность файлов

возможно, ошибка возникает из-за того что была повреждена целостность
системных файлов

  • Откройте «Командную строку» от имени администратора (для этого в поиске просто введите «Командная
    строка).
  • И как только откроется соответствующее, окно введите команду sfc /scannow после чего нажмите

    Enter

    все найденные ошибки будут автоматически исправлены.

Измените значение в реестре

редактирование в нём иногда помогает избавиться от
ошибок

    реестра» отыщите раздел, представленный ниже.

  • И если он присутствует, тогда необходимо следом отыскать параметр LoadAppinit_DLLs – далее в нём нужно
    изменить значение опции с 1 на 0 после необходимо применить
    настройки и перезагрузить систему.

Другие способы

  • В обязательном порядке попробуйте вручную установить драйверы для графического процессора. Причём это
    касается не только интегрированной видеокарты, но и дискретной.
  • Проверьте наличие всех актуальных распространяемых пакетов «Visual C++», поскольку это программное
    обеспечение влияет на многие процессы.
  • И, наконец, иногда причина этих ошибок заключается в службе «Microsoft Office Click-to-Run» – специальная
    технология Microsoft, которая сокращает время, необходимое для установки Office. Поэтому рекомендуем удалить эту
    программу и проверить игру на наличие ошибок.

Installing custom maps

Your players will inevitably get bored with the official set of maps provided. You will almost certainly want to install some of the many additional maps around to improve the experience of your game server.

Installing custom maps is a simple process providing map artists follow the map distribution guidelines. You will have downloaded a map as a file containing the map contents typically as a ZIP, RAR, or 7Z archive. Maps are rarely distribute maps as a standalone BSP file or as a bunch of unpacked files.

You can use a free utility such as 7-Zip to open most of the archive formats around today. This runs on both Windows and Linux and is provided for free of charge.

When you open the archive you should see a set of folders that could be gfx, maps, models, scripts, sound, and sprites. It’s also likely you’ll see a bunch of WAD files here too. If this is what you see you will need to extract all of these to your server’s svencoop_addons folder.

  • Do not extract any unofficial resources directly into the svencoop folder. To help keep your game files clean, use the svencoop_addons folder. The game engine is perfectly capable of loading maps and their contents from this location.
  • If there is a scripts folder included take a look inside before extraction. There should only ever be a maps folder inside this. Anything else should be treated as suspicious and not extracted, or deleted after extraction.
  • If there is only a svencoop folder inside the archive, you need to enter this folder before extraction. This shows the map artist has not followed our current guidelines on map distribution.
  • If there is only a BSP file (and maybe a couple of TXT/CFG files along side it) this means the map doesn’t have much custom content. These files should be extracted to the maps folder within the svencoop_addons folder.

Biological weapons

Spore launcher

  • Primary fire: Short shot
  • Secondary fire: Long shot
  • Ammo: Spores

A creature from that fires spores from its mouth also thrown by shock troopers. The spore creates a large acid splash on explosion.

The spores will bounce for a distance, then stop. They explode on player/NPC contact or after 4 seconds of being fired.

This artillery support weapon is best used in open spaces to avoid hurting yourself.

  • Spores can be picked up from a small plant that creates them, but be aware that the plants don’t like harsh treatment.
  • The acid splash creates a large amount of damage. Be sure to stay clear of spores when they explode.
  • Bouncing spores could bounce right back and explode in your face.
Shock rifle

  • Primary fire: Electric burst
  • Secondary fire: Triple lightning bolt
  • Ammo: Electricity (non-replenishable)

A shock roach from found in the hands of shock troopers can be picked up and used by players once it leaves its dying host.

Due to the fast self-destructing nature of shock roaches, you must drop yours to be able to select another weapon (set a key to drop weapon in the control options, or bind any key to drop — usually G).

  • Players must pick up a shock rifle by using one on the ground rather than simply walking over one.
  • Players can charge up another player’s HEV battery with the lightning bolt.
  • The shock roach will begin to explode when it’s low on charge. Throw it away when you notice it exploding or you will get hurt.

The weapons / equipment

Upon respawning or joining the game players are normally given a preset range of equipment and ammo. The type and amount varies between maps. It is also possible to pick up new weapons, ammo, and equipment in a map. The weapons you can pick up are generally better than your starting equipment and you should keep an eye out for them.

Players have the ability to share weapons and ammo with team mates using the drop weapon/ammo keys definable in the control options, so make sure to share in difficult scenarios to help with your chances for survival.

  • In many maps equipment is stored at or near the spawn location. If you find yourself running low on ammo, you may wish to backtrack to your starting location in order to restock.
  • For a full list of weapons and equipment in Sven Co-op check the weapons and equipment listing
  • Sven Co-op features weapon replacement technology, allowing each map to include its own unique weapons (WW2-era weapons in AfrikaKorps, for example). These weapons will usually work in a similar way to the default weapons, but may deal out drastically different amounts of damage.

Race-X

Nobody knows where these lifeforms come from, though they are an exciting addition to conflicting battles. Most of which feature electrical and poison attacks.

Shock roach

  • Class: Alien prey
  • Threat: Low
  • Weapons: None
  • Special abilities: None
  • Role: Ambush
  • The shock roach has a very limited lifespan as soon as its host (the shock trooper) dies.
  • You can pick up a live shock roach and use it as a weapon for a short while.
Pit drone

  • Class: Race X (pit drone)
  • Threat: Medium
  • Weapons: Spikes; swipe
  • Special abilities: None
  • Role: Attack
  • Pit drones can run nearly as fast as players, however they are quite weak. A close shotgun blast will take care of them.
  • When a player gets killed by a pit drone it will devour their dead body to regain all its health, but only if no other threats are around.
Shock trooper

  • Class: Race X (shock)
  • Threat: High
  • Weapons: Electric bolts; acid spore
  • Special abilities: None
  • Role: Attack
  • The acid spore will explode instantly if it hits prey, however takes a couple of seconds if it’s on the floor.
  • Acid spores do incredible damage and poison their targets. Hide behind something to avoid it.
  • When a shock trooper dies it will drop the shock roach it was holding.
Baby voltigore

  • Class: Race X (shock)
  • Threat: Low
  • Weapons: Swipe
  • Special abilities: None
  • Role: Attack

When there are babies, the mother is usually around. Don’t get too distracted.

Voltigore

  • Class: Race X (shock)
  • Threat: High
  • Weapons: Lightning; swipe
  • Special abilities: Can self-destruct in an acid shower
  • Role: Attack

The voltigore will self-destruct when it dies into a big acid shower, which will poison anyone caught within.

  • Если ничего из вышеописанного не дало нужного результата, тогда пора прибегнуть к
    радикальному способу решения проблемы: запускаете Sven Co-op и при появлении
    чёрного экрана нажимаете сочетание клавиш «Alt+Enter», чтобы игра переключилась на
    оконный режим. Так, возможно, откроется главное меню игры и удастся определить
    проблема в игре или нет. Если удалось перейти в оконный режим, тогда переходите в
    игровые настройки Sven Co-op и меняйте разрешение (часто получается так, что
    несоответствие разрешения игры и рабочего стола приводит к конфликту, из-за которого
    появляется чёрный экран).
  • Причиной этой ошибки также могут послужить различные программы, предназначенные для
    захвата видео и другие приложения, связанные с видеоэффектами. А причина простая –
    появляются конфликты.
  • И напоследок – проблема, вероятнее всего, может быть связана с технической
    составляющей «железа». Видеоадаптер может перегреваться, как и мосты на материнской
    плате, что влечёт за собой уменьшенное энергопотребление видеокарты. Мы не будем
    вдаваться в детальные технические подробности, поэтому просто рекомендуем в
    обязательном порядке почистить свою машину от пыли и также поменять термопасту!

Core variables

Setting Default value Description
sys_ticrate 100 The maximum number of frames/second your server will process.Frame rates too high will (over 200) also have a negative effect on physics and NPC movement, and will cause many brush entities to cause crush damage when nothing is blocking them.
sv_contact Empty The email address of the server manager, so players have someone to contact when there is a problem.
sv_downloadurl Empty The HTTP address where your server’s custom content can be found, so players can download it very fast. This is essential to get players onto your server while it’s running non-standard maps. HTTPS is currently unsupported, but will be available in a future release.
allow_spectators 1 Allow players to spectate the game. Currently obsolete in Sven Co-op.
deathmatch 1 This is essential for the intended game play of Sven Co-op. Do not change this, and do not use the coop setting.
decalfrequency 30 The time (seconds) a player must wait before making their spray again. will remove this delay, but is not recommended.
hpk_maxsize 2 The size limit (megabytes) of the file that stores uploaded sprays. The oldest sprays are removed to make way for new sprays.
pausable Determines whether the game on your server can be paused by anyone. This is never recommended on public servers.
skill 3 The default skill level your server will use. Maps can override this in their configuration.

  • 0: Always let the map choose.
  • 1: Easy, enemies are easy to kill, players are hard to kill.
  • 2: Hard, enemies are hard to kill, players are easy to kill.
  • 3: Realistic, enemies are easy to kill, players are very easy to kill — enables realistic weapon damage.

Mappers are recommended not to use this setting, but still do.

The music

Thanks to the new FMod sound library from Firelight Technologies more than just MP3 files can be played using the in-game music player.

Use the included play list editor tool «playlist.exe» to easily create a list of music files or import a play list to use in the in-game player.

In case you’re having trouble running this tool, all you should need is Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5. This is available free of charge for all Windows users:

  • via the Windows Update website for Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 users.
  • via the Windows Update tool (Start » All Programs) for Windows Vista, 2008, 7, 2008 R2, 8, and 8.1 users.
  • via the Programs and Features control panel for Windows 10 users.

The allies

Not all computer controlled monsters are out to kill you — some monsters will work with you against hostile monsters. To identify these allies, use the in game Friend or Foe system.

Simply point your cross hairs at a monster then information will show up in the bottom-left corner of your screen. If the monster is going to attack you the information will show up red. If it is green the monster is an ally and will help you. Real players will show up in blue. The Friend or Foe system also provides useful information about a monster or player’s health and name.

Certain maps may have disabled this feature. Typically this is enabled, though a map author can control this feature for their map.

  • Friendly monsters can follow you just as Barney can, and even be given some simple orders. This is also explained on the allies listing

Installation: Standalone application

Our dedicated server package is also available as a standalone package available via the SteamCMD tool. Though it requires further knowledge to install and use you will benefit from a server that doesn’t depend on your Steam client, can be run as a console application, and even be run as an unattended system service. Permanent / full-time servers should opt for this approach. You will also NOT require an existing Sven Co-op installation to continue.

Do not use this method of installation if you are unfamiliar with some basic server administration concepts such as using a command prompt or terminal environment, and reading/writing configuration files.

Instructions are as follows:

  1. Open a command prompt or terminal environment on your system.
  2. Download and install SteamCMD .
  3. Download our dedicated server package with the following command:steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir "C:\SvenDS" +app_update 276060 validate +exitReplace the path C:\SvenDS with a location to your preference.
  4. Wait for the package to download and validate.

Once it has finished you can use the SvenDS.exe executable to launch a server. Launching without any arguments will start it with a , or if you specify the -console argument it will start with a .

The same command is used to update the server application too, however be sure you have no server instances running or the update will fail.

Server administrators

Sven Co-op has a (minimal) framework for server administrators and owners to get some representation of their status and some basic functionality to help control the game session.

These players are given this status by declaring their Steam ID within the file adminsfile (pointing to «admins.txt» by default). To give a player administrative status simply write their Steam ID on a line in this file. You can write comments after if you want to keep note of the players’ handle.

Server administrators will be shown as such on the score board with the icon . If the server is yours you can also denote yourself as such by placing an asterisk ‘*’ before your Steam ID, for which you will get a tinted icon . No additional functionality is currently available to owners, it’s mainly for show.

Here is an example of how your administrator list file could look:

You do not have to include your Steam ID if you are only going to be running a listen server (i.e. for a temporary map test session). As a player hosting a listen server, you are automatically given the ownership status.

The only administrative functionality built-in currently provided is the ability to use , primarily because this feature is fairly new to the game. We will be including more functionality in future releases, however our scripting platform is able to determine if a player is an administrator or owner. Anyone can write a server plug-in script to boost the functionality available without a complicated permissions base.

  • Часто причиной ошибки служит перегретая видеокарта, поэтому для проверки её
    работоспособности рекомендуем воспользоваться программой

Configuration files

The following only need to be changed when running multiple servers off a single installation of Sven Co-op (aka configuration profiling) where sharing of configuration files is not desired.
