In My Little Pony: A New Generation, Pipp appears as a princess of , pop singer, and social media celebrity. Sunny Starscout and Izzy Moonbow arrive in Zephyr Heights on the day of a royal celebration, during which Pipp is scheduled to debut a brand new song. When Sunny and Izzy are brought before Pipp and her mother and sister Zipp Storm, Pipp reveals their presence to the entire city through social media (to her mother’s chagrin). She later tells Sunny and Izzy that she and her royal family are the only Pegasi able to fly, though Zipp later reveals this to be false.

When the celebration gets underway, Pipp sings the song Glowin’ Up while performing an aerial routine on wires. During this, Sunny, Izzy, and Zipp try to steal the magical Pegasus Crystal from Queen Haven’s crown while avoiding Haven’s pet pomeranian and sheriff Hitch Trailblazer. Through Sunny, Izzy, and Zipp’s interference, Pipp’s wires and inability to fly are revealed to the audience, exposing her and her family as frauds.

After Haven is arrested and additional arrest warrants are put out for Pipp and Zipp, Pipp gives the Pegasus Crystal to Sunny and her friends and gets dragged into their quest to bring magic back to Equestria. Though she initially bears resentment toward Zipp and the others for causing her mother to be arrested and herself to be seen as a criminal, Pipp eventually comes to view them as friends and their quest as important.

Pipp and her friends acquire the Unicorn Crystal in , but nothing happens when it is joined together with the Pegasus Crystal. Sunny returns to Maretime Bay in failure and despair, but Pipp and the others follow out of a desire to stay friends with her. Upon arriving, they get swept up in Hitch’s deputy ‘s destructive plot to wage war against unicorns and Pegasi. After Sunny succeeds in bringing the three pony races together, Pipp and her new friends happily welcome a new age of friendship and magic.

A cutie mark, a mainstay of My Little Pony, is a special mark on a pony’s flank showing an icon related to their special talent.

During Call of the Cutie, Cheerilee tells her students that no amount of pleading, wishing, or begging will make a cutie mark happen before its time, and that the best thing to do is wait. Different ponies develop different special talents as they mature, and at different times; for instance, Rarity’s special skill is gem-finding, Fluttershy’s is caring for animals, Rainbow Dash’s is speed, Applejack’s is apple farming, and Pinkie Pie’s is party-throwing.

One prominent example of a pony finding her talent is Twilight Sparkle. During a flashback in The Cutie Mark Chronicles, she studies hard at magic and her parents enroll her in Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns. The sonic rainboom spurs her powerful magic into action, showing that she has enough raw magic ability to turn her parents into foliage and enlarge an infant Spike. Princess Celestia informs Twilight that she’s never seen that much raw talent in a unicorn before, and her cutie mark subsequently appears.

Five Crystal Ponies are shown working at a spa in the Crystal Empire in Games Ponies Play. Of these five, «» appears again in The Crystalling — Part 1, and and appear again in The Times They Are A Changeling.

Additionally, Bulk Biceps is seen working at the Ponyville spa in Castle Sweet Castle, Applejack’s «Day» Off, and All Bottled Up, providing «extra-strength» massages.

«» appears in No Second Prances and She Talks to Angel, and has a speaking role in Applejack’s «Day» Off. A male unicorn spa pony also appears in the latter episode.

Other depictions

Various humans have appeared along with ponies in merchandise and in other media such as commercials, some humans being cartoon characters and others being played by live-action actors. Cartoon humans include characters who appear on some of WeLoveFine’s My Little Pony Project 2012 art shirts, characters who appear in Electronic Arts’ Hasbro iOS app Monopoly Hotels, and characters from other Hub-aired shows who appear in some of the channel’s promotional crossover media.

Three pony types

My Little Pony Friendship is Magic divides ponies into three main «types» in the first episode: Earth ponies, Pegasi, and unicorns. These are called the «three pony tribes» in the episode Hearth’s Warming Eve. The storybook Under The Sparkling Sea adds seaponies, and previous My Little Pony generations included flutter ponies and breezies as well as sea ponies. Most, however, are absent from the Friendship is Magic series. The division into three types led the show’s developer, Lauren Faust, to initially give them equal representation in the show’s main cast and the Cutie Mark Crusaders. The powers of the Alicorns draws equally from the three types, according to the book .

Earth ponies have no wings or unicorn horn, and therefore most closely resemble real ponies. They are the kind first introduced by the My Little Pony brand. The chapter book Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell mentions that one special trait is «the strength of a good, true heart of an Earth Pony.» The of the show My Little Pony Friendship is Magic features two Earth ponies: Applejack and Pinkie Pie.

Pegasi, or «Pegasus ponies«, are ponies with wings and flight abilities – in the fashion of the legendary Pegasus. The term «Pegasi» is used in the episodes Sonic Rainboom and The Return of Harmony Part 1, and «Pegasus ponies» is used in the episodes Look Before You Sleep and Sonic Rainboom. When referring to a single pony, «Pegasus» is almost always used, with the exception of one «Pegasus pony» in Friendship is Magic, part 1. Pegasi can usually fly and . The main cast of the show features two Pegasi: Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy.

Luna’s guards pulling her carriage

Two Pegasus royal guard ponies pull Princess Luna’s chariot in Luna Eclipsed. The guards have tufted ears, bat-like webbed wings, non-hairy tail and crest, and wear dark purple armor. Princess Luna and the Festival of the Winter Moon identifies these Pegasi as «bat ponies». Other Pegasi with similar attributes, including Rainbow Dash, appear in an alternate timeline in The Cutie Re-Mark — Part 2.

Unicorns

Unicorns are characterized by a magical horn on their foreheads, and they usually have magical abilities. The show’s main cast initially features two unicorns: Rarity and Twilight Sparkle, but Twilight gains wings in the finale Magical Mystery Cure.

Depiction in the series

Season one

Lotus Blossom first appears in the episode Bridle Gossip, and later they appear together in Green Isn’t Your Color. In the former episode, Lotus only appears briefly in the final scene, asking Zecora for the ingredients of her herbal bath. She speaks with a Swedish accent.

The spa offers many services in Green Isn’t Your Color, such as massages, mud baths, seaweed bath wraps, steam rooms, and even horn filing for unicorn ponies. Rarity comes in for her «usual» and returns for a second time as soon as she’s finished. Aloe does not seem to notice that Fluttershy is not a unicorn pony when she attempts to give her a horn filing regardless before realizing her mistake.

Season two

Lotus Blossom and Aloe also appear in A Friend in Deed where they give Cranky Doodle Donkey a service as a gift from Pinkie Pie.

Lotus Blossom later appears in Ponyville Confidential, where she attempts to give Rainbow Dash a hooficure, which she refuses hastily.

Season five

Aloe and Lotus Blossom appear in Castle Sweet Castle when Twilight Sparkle and Spike visit the day spa. Aloe has her first in-show speaking role in the episode, the credits of which refer to her simply as «Spa Pony». Both also appear in Slice of Life. Season six

Lotus Blossom appears in On Your Marks watching Tender Taps’ tap-dancing performance at the Ponyville dance theater. In No Second Prances, Lotus Blossom appears giving Starlight Glimmer a spa treatment, and Aloe appears in the audience during Trixie’s magic show. Lotus Blossom and Aloe can be seen from the back in the final group shot of A Hearth’s Warming Tail. Aloe appears with her second in-show speaking role in Applejack’s «Day» Off, the credits of which name her as in previous materials. Lotus Blossom appears in The Fault in Our Cutie Marks watching Gabby play baseball.

Season seven

Lotus Blossom appears in Parental Glideance as a member of the crowd at the Wonderbolts showcase. Lotus Blossom and Aloe appear in the crowd of the contest in Honest Apple. Lotus Blossom appears in Fame and Misfortune holding an «I Heart Twilight Sparkle» sign. Both Lotus and Aloe appear in line to buy flowers at the Ponyville marketplace in It Isn’t the Mane Thing About You.

Season nine

In The Beginning of the End — Part 2, both Aloe and Lotus Blossom get brainwashed by King Sombra into invading Canterlot. Eventually, they get freed from Sombra’s mind control after the Mane Six defeat him. In She’s All Yak, they both appear in the reused image of The Cutie Re-Mark — Part 2 during Fit Right In, and appear in the Ponyville Spa wearing hazmat suits while washing Yona.

Aloe and Lotus appear in Between Dark and Dawn, giving Princess Luna and Princess Celestia makeovers. In Dragon Dropped, Aloe and Lotus both appear in a flashback tending to Rarity and Spike. In The Big Mac Question, Aloe appears kicking Sweetie Belle out of the spa for disturbing a spa patron. In The Ending of the End — Part 2, Aloe and Lotus take shelter with the other Earth ponies as Ponyville closes itself off from the other pony races. In The Last Problem, Aloe and Lotus briefly appear in Rainbow Dash’s group shot during The Magic of Friendship Grows.

Clip shows

Aloe and Lotus Blossom both appear with speaking lines in the clip show episode Deep Tissue Memories. In the closing credits, Aloe’s name is listed as «Aloe Vera».
