Star Wars Battlefront is an example of «two steps forward, one step back». On the one hand we have an experience that loyally recreates war in a far off galaxy, perfectly transporting you into the movie franchise. In addition, its game modes are fun, especially if you only enjoy them in small doses. Unfortunately, Star Wars Battlefront lacks content and variety.

The Force is strong with this one

Star Wars Battlefront is a joyous assault on your sense. Every version of the game is a technical marvel, but it proves especially dazzling on PC. Even if you’ve never seen an episode in the Star Wars saga, you’ll be mesmerized as the Imperial AT-STs stomp across the snowfields of Hoth while the sound of TIE Fighters fighting X-Wings punctuate the skies.

In terms of pure mechanics, Star Wars Battlefront is impeccable. This is to be expected of course — developer DICE has built on the solid success of its Battlefield field series, adapting its Frostbite engine to Battlefront. From the movement to the trigger system, even the character classes, all lift from DICE’s previous games. The result, any player — regardless of skill level — can have a great time, whether you play five minutes or two hours.

The Supremacy Mode Star Wars Battlefront is the star of the game. It gives you the opportunity to engage in a battle of 20 Rebels vs 20 Imperial for control of five key points on huge maps. It is a delight. If you do not like large-scale battles, however, Battlefront also offers 10 vs 10 Deathmatch and a Droid Run mode — in which two teams of 6 vs 6 players must activate and maintain three droids.

Do not forget, the game also offers you the possibility to play as iconic heroes and villains. Earning the ability to step into the shoes of Vader or Luke during a fight gives you a chance to use the Force. In this sense, Star Wars Battlefront is very accessible.

Hate leads to suffering

The Star Wars Battlefront problems arise when we think of the game as a long term investment. And these drawbacks can be summarized in three words: lack of content.

No story mode or solo missions makes things quite boring, as no context is offered for the world other than “Star Wars”. And, even when leveraging the franchise, you can forget reliving those epic space battles as in the previous 2005 Battlefront 2. Plus, controlling vehicles during in atmosphere combat also leaves much to be desired: there is no sense of speed and the controls seem almost too simple.

Star Wars Battlefront is also restricted in its locations. The worst thing about this is that we already know exactly why: publisher EA is preparing to release them as DLC. Much of this is planned to be free to coincide with the Force Awakens release – but there is so much planned, and so little in the initial product, that it is hard not to recommend waiting to see how good this later content is. Simply, with what is on the disk today, there are very few hours of play to be had before things get repetitive.

Aren’t you a little short to be a full game?

If you love Star Wars and Battlefield then you are sure to enjoy what Star Wars Battlefront offers, providing you play in small doses. If you over indulge, there is a good chance you will tire of the content and be desperate for the rollout of the DLC – I just hope that it’s good.

3 DARTH MACE

For everyone who hoped Mace would return someday, he was going to, just in the Battlefront 4 video game. Designs for an evil version of Mace were drawn up before LucasArts shut down, and those drawings would’ve seen him return in an all-new role. Details surrounding Mace’s return are still unknown but we can assume that it was intended to take place after Palpatine threw him out of a window in Revenge Of The Sith. The scarring on Mace’s face and indistinguishable prosthetic hand in the concept add some credence to those claims.

Assuming Mace survived the fall and recuperated somewhere, it must’ve sent him over the edge. Unless the Jedi Order being dismantled was the cause, his fall from grace was likely caused…well, from his more literal fall. Of course, the bigger concern here is who Mace allied himself with after.

7 JEDI MAUL

At some point in the development of Battlefront 4, the developers concocted the idea of turning Darth Maul into a Jedi; the above concept art showing their vision for a more heroic take on him. It’s similar to most Jedi attire but he’s swapped out the black face designs for Jedi hair in one, and white accents in another. Other than that, not much else sticks out. Although, Maul’s choice in lightsaber model does appear to have changed slightly.

As you can see, Maul no longer carries the doubled-edged type, he carries two individual hilts. The concept art doesn’t feature the color of Jedi Maul’s blade but it’s a safe bet that it’s not red. Only Sith who’ve bled a Kyber Crystal wield red lightsabers, meaning Maul’s are most likely a base color like blue or green.

В качестве солдата Империи играть довольно необычно, учитывая то, что эта темная сторона, зло и все в таком духе. Однако постепенно сюжет начинает превращаться в какой-то странный коктейль, смешанный другими героями без должного на то объяснения. После одного ключевого сюжетного момента, когда героиня должна решить, на чьей она стороне, повествование и вовсе уходит куда-то очень далеко, оставляя нас наедине с собственной фантазией, которая, судя по всему, должна сама заполнить дыры во внутриигровой истории.

Внезапное появление Люка Скайуокера, странный уровень с Ханом Соло и знакомство с принцессой Леей Органой призваны вызвать бурю эмоций. Возвращение старых героев, возможность увидеть то, чем они занимались после финальных титров шестого эпизода «Звездных войн»… все это, казалось бы, должно пробудить у каждого, кто в свое время смотрел оригинальную трилогию, чувство ностальгии и интереса. Но, к сожалению, этого не происходит. Причина отсутствия положительного впечатления от сюжетной линии кроется в деталях.

Из-за слишком быстрого развития сюжета история потеряла самое главное — раскрытие персонажей. Главная героиня за шесть-семь часов прохождения не успевает в полной мере раскрыться. Ее связь с отцом и взаимоотношения с сослуживцами в перспективе должны способствовать установлению характера и глубины повествования, но ничего этого, если не считать несколько неплохих сцен, не происходит. Графика и звук

Даже первая Star Wars: Battlefront, если взглянуть на нее сейчас, спустя два года после релиза, смотрится очень достойно. Вторая часть, как несложно догадаться, в этом моменте только похорошела. Взрывы гранат, стрельба из бластера, проработанность карт, окружение и анимации передвижения боевой техники выполнены превосходно. Единственное, что выглядит как-то скудно, так это модели некоторых персонажей, которые практически никак не изменились со времен первой части.

Звуковая составляющая у Star Wars: Battlefront 2 находится на хорошем уровне. Нельзя сказать, что проблем никаких не наблюдается. К примеру, звук от выстрелов бластеров выполнен очень аутентично, но сама музыка в некоторых местах может немного расстроить однообразностью. Каждая пушка в игре звучит индивидуально, что говорит об огромном процессе работы над внутриигровым оружием. Модели пушек, кстати, теперь также не напоминают модифицированный автомат Калашникова, как это было в первой части.

В плане оптимизации консольная версия не содержит в себе каких-то серьезных проблем. Загрузки между уровнями происходят очень быстро, что в последнее время встречается все реже в видеоиграх. Даже при быстром полете на истребителях заметить подгрузки текстур можно только в том случае, если специально к ним приглядываться.

6 DARK LUKE

The Pièce De Résistance of this collection has to be Dark Luke Skywalker. At one time or another, every Star Wars fan has pondered over what Dark Side Luke would look like. Plenty of fan-made variants have been crafted over the years but nothing that falls into the canonical territory. Battlefront 4 on the other hand, had the closest thing to a Dark Side Luke in it.

In their portrayal of Luke, the tragic events of his family’s past have pushed him over the edge. So much so that Luke’s resolve has weakened enough for the Dark Side to lure him in. As a result, Luke heads down a much darker path, one that might’ve seen him battle it out with Jedi Leia. The question is, who would win in a battle of wills?

10 NON-CYBORG GENERAL GRIEVOUS

Before Grievous augmented his body with cybernetic implants, he was part of the Kaleesh race, an alien humanoid type in the Star Wars universe. We never see what Grievous looks like before he became a cyborg but it’s most likely similar to the concept art from Star Wars: Battlefront 4. The reptilian look of the Kaleesh matches up perfectly with past illustrations, and the war-bound robes are adequate as well.

Speculation aside, it’s really too bad that Grievous didn’t get more screen time. His introduction was one of the only redeeming qualities of the prequel trilogy. and he was kind of brushed off in the end. The animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series presented Grievous with a few more chances to appear but they didn’t amount to much. The bad news is that an opportunity to delve into Grievous’ past was overlooked and we never got to see what he looked like.

2 JEDI DOOKU

Okay, this one just seems preposterous, even for the Battlefront story-line. Count Dooku becoming a Jedi again is by far the most drastic change that could be taken with the Star Wars plot. In his short time on screen, he never once showed a single redeemable quality that could’ve led to a more righteous path than the one he already turned away from. However, another reason could be the reason Dooku chose another side.

In the Battlefront 4 game, the Emperor would’ve had more apt apprentices to call on. With both Obi-Wan and Luke Skywalker choosing the Dark Side, they’d likely be considered more important than Dooku. And we all know that inadequate Sith are cast aside when a better apprentice is found. Therefore, it’s safe to say Jedi Dooku never switched sides in the first place!

Strategy[]

Using the EE-4

• Strong against: Any weapon at close to medium range
• Weak against: Long-range blasters firing at a range

Usage
The EE-4 is widely considered to be one of ─ if not the ─ best blasters in the game. By virtue of its incredible power and high rate of fire to go with it ─ a near-patented, elusive combination shared by very few other blasters in the game ─ at close to medium range, the EE-4 is a juggernaut and force to be reckoned with. At any range, the EE-4 is capable of dishing out 2-shot kills to the body, making it extremely easy to use, unlike the EE-3. The EE-4 also has the second highest burst in the game, firing a grand total of 6 blaster bolts with each pull of the trigger, beaten out only by the CA-87, whose numerous issues make it vastly inferior to the EE-4 in most situations. However, just like the CA-87, the EE-4 is far from perfect: its horrible accuracy at a distance and low Cooling Power ─ only further worsened by its position as a burst weapon ─ give it a middling performance at range, leaving it often incapable of touching enemies that attack it from a distance. It is also by far the most inconsistent blaster in the game, having a luck-based rate of fire pattern and spread; sometimes, blaster bolts from the rifle will surround your enemy and do nothing, and sometimes they will all hit dead on target and 2-shot kill. The latter, however, is incredibly rare.Load out
The Focus Fire Charge Card, of all of the Star Cards available in the game, by far synergises the best with the EE-4, curing its horrible accuracy at a range by giving it a more consistent and defined spread.
If close range encounters are more important, use of the Cooling Cell Charge Card can be helpful to offset the blaster’s low Cooling Power, although this strategy is more of a gimmick than something viable as such.
The game’s two long-range rifle Star Cards, being the Cycler Rifle and Pulse Cannon, can again help to offset its big weakness at range, although neither are particularly reliable and might cost you a more useful Star Card.

Against the EE-4

At close range, the main check to the EE-4 is to attack from behind. But this is genuinely one of the few ways to actually beat it at point blank ranges ─ unless your opponent has horrible aim or you happen to be using SE-14C with Explosive Shot or the CA-87, hopes of winning a gunfight with the EE-4 at a proximity are low.

At a distance, it is an entirely different story. Targeting enemies using the EE-4 makes the blaster seem like laughing stock, as its ranged capabilities are so poor that it struggles to fight back. Truthfully any weapon that functions well at range, like the DLT-19X, T-21B, Relby V-10, EE-3, or the DLT-19 makes quick work of its users.

5 REDEEMED VADER

A different take on Darth Vader in Battlefront 4 would’ve seen him adopt a mash-up between the augmented suit he’s known for and Jedi garbs. The design above shows us that he still would’ve used a practical apparatus for the breathing issues he suffered from, but Jedi robes are used in place of a robotic outfit.

The more interesting detail in this piece of concept art is the slightly grown back hair. Vader’s head doesn’t seem to be too badly damaged and his hair is actually growing again. This may be a result of an advanced medical procedure or a more beneficial use of the Light Side of the Force for healing. Another, perhaps more feasible explanation is that Vader just wasn’t burned as badly in this universe. Either way, this take on Vader depicts him in a much better light.

4 SITH LORD LUKE

If the idea of a Dark Side Luke wasn’t enough to scare you, LucasArts intended to take the idea one step further by turning Luke into a Sith Lord. The design above shows the effects of the Dark Side and how it warped his appearance. The inspiration for this variation is based on Emperor Palpatine but one can’t ignore the canny similarity to Supreme Leader Snoke.

It is highly unlikely, but in another universe, perhaps LucasFilms might’ve used Sith Lord Luke as a model for Snoke’s design. Both Snoke and this dark version of Luke also seem to share the sunken eye look. We could spend all day discussing why they’re similar but the most realistic explanation is that these features are attributed to anyone who undergoes the process of turning to the Dark Side.

8 REDEEMED ANAKIN SKYWALKER

The above piece of concept art depicts a revision of Anakin Skywalker. It’s labeled «Redeemed Vader» but it appears as if this character is more like Anakin than Vader. His appearance tells us that he’s already been in the brutal fight that left him limbless, but he’s come out of it stronger. The apparatus he needs to breath doesn’t conceal his face, showing a much happier man underneath. Vader chose to keep the helmet given to him by the Emperor but he could’ve gone with something else if he didn’t want to hide his face.

Anakin also seems to be lacking a prosthetic on his left arm. The concept art shows that he has one on the right as a reminder of the past, so it’s safe to assume the same can be said about his right. Living without a prosthetic would serve as a reminder of what led to him losing it. In turn, he’d know not to repeat that cycle.

Итоги

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 гораздо лучше оригинала во многих направлениях. Игра сияет от обилия внутриигрового контента уже прямо на старте, космические битвы дарят действительно новый, незабываемый опыт, а красивая графика и улучшенная система стрельбы не позволяют внести игру в список неудавшихся продуктов. Однако откровенно слабый сюжетный режим, неуместная система лутбоксов и скучные поединки на световых мечах могут сильно огорчить поклонников «Звездных войн».
