The keeper

Tips

  • The Sentinel’s headbutting charge deals high damage and can disorient Sebastian as he tries to get a bead on the creature, but this can be telegraphed by watching for movement coming from one of the nearby bushes.
    • The Agony Crossbow can be used to great effect here if the player can anticipate the Sentinel’s trajectory and introduce the beast to several Freeze or Explosive bolts. Shooting a bolt directly at the Sentinel won’t sell, however, as the beast will simply shrug it off.
    • Firing Explosive bolts into a bush will blow up and deal heavy damage to the Sentinel as it enters. Lobbing several Grenades into the bushes works as well, though the timing must be correct or else the beast will be able to evade the explosion.
    • Shooting the Sentinel with a high-powered weapon like the Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, or Magnum (New Game+ only) while it is charging at you will knock it over, opening it up to follow-up attacks. This is only really viable using the Shotgun, however, due to the Sniper Rifle’s unwieldiness and infinitsimally scarce ammo drops by that point, with the Magnum being even more so even on a second playthrough.
  • Despite the Sentinel’s fast charging speed, it is very clumsy when it comes to sudden turns, therefore keeping a light foot and sidestepping its charges can leave the creature open to damage.
  • The Sentinel can be snuck past when going to retrieve Joseph’s glasses as it will be facing away from the gate when Sebastian re-enters the yard. Joseph will occasionally toss bottles around to distract the creature, though he will stop doing so if Sebastian is detected.

Background

Neun is the conjoined twin brother of fellow mutant Zehn. Abandoned at birth, Neun and his brother were taken in by the members of the Cedar Hill Church cult to serve as guinea pigs for their experiments. The twin were surgically separated and administered a special growth serum that caused rapid physiological changes. Within the first two days of the experiment, the infants grew to be as large as a young adult, but also left heavy mental scarring in them.

Physically, Neun appears much less malformed than Zehn, though his mentality paints a different picture. While Zehn was left a gibbering lump after the experiment, Neun became exceedingly violent and angry, and had to be heavily restrained to keep his homicidal urges in check. Traces of various cuffs and other binding implements can still be found on his body.

It is unclear whether Neun was in the same state of mutation when encountered as he was during the experiment, or that he and Zehn were additionally transformed due to the influences of Ruvik, though if such was the case it did little to curb his thirst for violence.

Trivia

  • The burnt message «Don’t Go» found near the end of Side Mission: Rogue Signal was created by Theodore using Sebastian’s memories of Lily’s handwriting found at the back of their family photo. The burnt messages will make another appearance later when Theodore uses his apparition of Lily to torment Sebastian.
  • Sebastian commented that Theodore’s handwriting looked like that of the Zodiac Killer’s.
  • The version of Theodore Wallace encountered in the final game is markedly younger than the one shown in the reveal trailers, and sports a light five o’clock shadow rather than a full beard.
  • Theodore’s cane has a distinct bloodhound motif, reinforcing the imagery of him being the ‘shepherd’ to his worshippers, a ‘flock of sheep’.

Gameplay

The fight against Stefano at the end of Chapter 8 has a noticeable pattern to it, though can be frustrating for new players who couldn’t get a constant bead on him. The main thing to always know is to pay attention to his quotes. His quotes can telegraph what attack he is going to do.

Stefano starts out by flash-stepping around the walls of his gallery, which will eventually put him near the player. Keep an eye out during this part and a Shotgun handy as most of his attacks will be at short range during this phase. When not chasing Sebastian around with his knife, Stefano may pull out his camera and attempt to take a picture of him, which slows him down considerably and leaving the player vulnerable to attacks, though the stasis field can be walked out of. Occasionally, Stefano will remain at a distance and chuck his knife at Sebastian, which can be dodged by sidestepping or moving behind cover, which will prompt him to start his flash-stepping sequence again. Stefano will taunt the player when he is about to throw his knife, where he can be sniped to stun for a short while in addition to dealing good damage.

After taking enough hits, Stefano will change up his routine a bit and removes the arena’s background, revealing the Aperture who will be assisting him in the fight from then on by slamming the playing field with its huge tentacles. Get behind a wall to avoid them. These kill instantly if they hit Sebastian square on, and knocks him down with considerable damage on a graze. The fight continues as above, but with Stefano’s attacks being much faster than before. His flash-stepping and knife toss attacks are telegraphed by his quote. When he says «Bleed for me», it means he is about to throw the knife. He will also start summoning suspended explosives throughout the area that blows up and deals heavy damage if Sebastian touches them. Keep wailing on him during this phase to quickly bring him down.

The Evil Within

Leslie is first seen sitting in the back of an ambulance with Dr. Jimenez and Juli Kidman, panicking at the bumpy ride and Dr. Jimenez is trying to comfort him. He seems to know that they are going to drive over a cliff and when they crash, he and the others are scattered.

Throughout most of the game, Leslie is only seen for a few seconds to a few minutes at a time after being found by either Sebastian, Kidman, or Dr. Jimenez before getting scared and running off again, though how he manages to survive on his own, unarmed, is unknown. Although, the fact that he may have been guided by Ruvik is possible.

There is also a short scene where Joseph and Sebastian see Kidman leading Leslie into Cedar Hill Church.

At one point, Sebastian is locked in a room after becoming infected and attacking Kidman. About a few seconds after she leaves, Leslie is heard repeating «Get it open» over and over again as he tries to get the door to Sebastian’s prison open. As soon as it’s open far enough, Leslie then starts to yell for help and takes off again apparently knowing that enemies are near.

Dr. Jimenez is the one to mention Leslie’s special connection to Ruvik, that he is the only one to survive being linked to him, so Dr. Jimenez attempts to use him to find their way back (which seems to cause Leslie extreme pain), only for it to fail, but getting the attention of Ruvik, who sends his Amalgam Alpha monster after Leslie, killing Dr. Jiminez in the process. Leslie and Sebastian are separated once more because of the beast.

Leslie is later seen with Kidman, who, knowing that Ruvik is after him, promptly tries to shoot him, and by that destroying Ruvik itself, only to be confronted by Sebastian who defends Leslie. Kidman takes a shot trying to shoot Leslie but accidentally hits Joseph.

Leslie is again seen attempting to lead Sebastian somewhere but is once again separated from him by Ruvik, then reunited with Sebastian in the STEM machine room they are all being kept in, as he is running away from Kidman. Kidman tries to reason with Sebastian, but Sebastian disagrees that Leslie should die when their predicament is Ruvik’s doing. Ruvik intervenes and Leslie gives in to his influence, allowing him to liquidate and absorb the boy’s mentality into that of his own. Leslie’s psychological self presumably ceases to exist in the real world after this point.

Leslie is last seen by Sebastian outside of STEM, walking away upright instead of his normally hunched gait. Sebastian gets another headache from what seems to be the same kind of signal he’s been hearing throughout the game and takes his eyes off of Leslie for a moment. When he looks back up, he seems to have disappeared. Though Leslie’s fate remains unknown, it is heavily implied that Ruvik has taken possession of his mind as means of escaping STEM.

The Consequence

She later returns in The Consequence. She is first seen when Juli goes to the locker area of Safe Haven. There is a table with the black cat sitting on it with a record player playing classical violin music, right next to it Shade, she is turned away from Juli, she is on her knees and shivering. When Juli gets close to her you hear her laugh and she turns around shining her light at Juli. When the screen turns white you hear her say «Kidman» as opposed to Leslie.

Shade reappears in Chapter 3 in the dark as Juli searches for the generator to power the lights. It is encountered sitting at the back of a room at the end of the hall, motionless, its light flickering at the wall. Its light reveals a hidden door on the wall. But as soon as Juli opens it, Shade comes to life, chasing Juli through a few rooms before being lost when Juli enters a vent. From behind the wall next to the vent, Shade can still be heard calling Leslie’s name. Almost immediately after Juli exits the vent, Shade returns, pursuing her through one last room before being left behind by the elevator. As Juli escapes, Shade punches through the elevator’s roof with a high-heeled shoe.

At the end of the chapter, Juli is transported to a dark hall after making her way through the rubble of the city. At the end of the hall, Shade appears, swinging her light around wildly and screaming. With her handgun, Juli shoots Shade’s light, shattering it and rendering the creature temporarily blind. After a while, the light turns back on, and Juli must shoot the light one more time, which kills Shade and sends her light rolling away. Juli approaches the now defeated Shade and says «Did Ruvik send you? Well I hope he gets the message.» She then smashes the light by stomping on it, finishing Shade off.

Gameplay

Shade pursues Juli relentlessly, killing anything that gets in her way while using her spotlight to search for her and Leslie.
Shade’s behavior is erratic and hard to predict; she may walk around her immediate surroundings with slow, deliberate steps, occasionally bursting into short jogs before resuming her usual speed, or suddenly turning around with no warning.
The spotlight on her head changes color depending on the situation and her awareness of Juli’s whereabouts, showing different moods:

  • When idle, the light will be a faint white and Shade will occasionally flap the shutters as if blinking.
  • When catching a glimpse of Juli, who then hides, the light will turn yellow as Shade investigates the player’s last known location. If she doesn’t spot them again, Shade will turn back to her white phase and resume patrol.
  • When she catches Juli in the open, the light turns red and Shade lets out a high-pitched screech before beginning pursuit. The red spotlight will stun Juli constantly as long as it’s trained on her, which will disable her ability to sprint and slow her down considerably, allowing Shade to catch up.

Shade only has one attack, which is a large body bite via a massive maw hidden beneath her cloak, but this will instantly kill Juli if it connects. Short of scripted gameplay sections, or until the very end of Chapter 3, Juli doesn’t have any weapon with which she can use to defend herself against Shade. As such, she is to be avoided at all times, until the game allows Juli to fight back.

If playing on KURAYAMI, Shade’s spotlight will still be visible.

Потрошитель из The Suffering: Ties That Bind

The Suffering: Ties That Bind

Fate

Although Sebastian later accuses Kidman of killing Joseph, his body is absent from the bathtubs he and Sebastian were connected to. Kidman, upon instructing Sebastian to pretend to be dead within the bathtub, tells her unknown acquaintance to «leave that one, and those two» (in reference to Jimenez and Connelly, who are confirmed as dead.) Joseph being left out of the body count leads to heavy implications that he is not dead, but whether or not this is truly the case is left ambiguous.

In «The Consequence,» Joseph’s heartbeat can be heard while approaching his body in the STEM system; Connelly and Jimenez’s heartbeats, in contrast, cannot be heard. John Johanas has confirmed that this does mean Joseph survived being shot by Kidman, and thus Joseph is alive at the time of the final boss battle. At the end of «The Consequence,» Joseph is seen being dragged away by two MOBIUS agents.

In The Interlude, issue 1, Sebastian is under the impression that Joseph was killed.

In The Evil Within 2, Kidman confirms to Sebastian during the final slide moment that Joseph is indeed alive, but she does not elaborate on this topic further.

Relationships

Sebastian Castellanos

Theodore’s relationship with Sebastian was one of deception from the beginning. He persistently offers the detective his help in taking Lily back from Myra and ridding him of his trauma, in exchange for his loyalty. Sebastian in turn will always refuse his offer, as he has a clear hatred for Theodore due to the man’s manipulative nature, god-complex, and utter disregard for human life. His constant defiance earned him Theodore’s wrath, who then promptly retaliated by sending numerous Disciples, Harbingers, a brainwashed Liam O’Neal and creatures from his traumatic memories of Beacon to hinder his progress, as well as showing him a false and accusatory version of Lily and warping Union around him into a fiery version of the place.

Myra Hanson

Theodore at one point had a working relationship with Myra, as he was able to make her trust him enough so that she would allow him to participate in his plan to free Lily. However once his ulterior motives were revealed within STEM, their relationship immediately became antagonistic as they both sought to kill the other.

Symbolism

The Shade appears to be a physical manifestation of Juli herself, more specifically a nightmarish replica of her found within the STEM. It displays feminine qualities given her legs and prada, wearing white much like Juli, armed with nothing but a light and mindlessly searching for Leslie when doing so is Juli’s mission. Shade’s spotlight could also be seen as a symbol of Juli’s past when looking at the statue that you must shine spotlights at.

It is the first creature shown in the game, standing there apathetically when Juli is first found in the STEM. This implies that it entered there at the same time as Juli, implying that it comes from Juli herself, or is simply the STEM’s reaction to Juli’s presence.

While the creature is very hostile towards Juli, it is possible that it is simply acting out of instinct as it also occasionally assists Juli from killing Haunted and giving clues on how to navigate the STEM, such as shining light on the MOBIUS symbols to reveal secrets. This could represent Juli’s unruly unconscious mind, acting on its own interests and thinking of nothing else but what it wants (i.e. the search for Leslie).

The Shade could also be a representation of Ruvik’s desire for a new body. Ruvik has been shown to say that his physical appearance isn’t the «real him» and that he wants a new body. It explains why Shade mutters «your body» when it devours a victim. It also explains why the Shade is looking for Leslie as Ruvik wants to use Leslie to escape STEM.

Alternatively, it could be a combination of both things. Thus far a boss enemy that is a symbolic mixture of two peoples feelings and actions had not been encountered before. This could imply that the Shade is a physical representation of Juli, created by Ruvik during his mission to find a new body/find Leslie. A possible answer is that the Shade represents Ruvik’s feelings towards Juli and how he wants her to take Leslie out of STEM so Ruvik can leave through him, ruining Mobius’s plans.

History

Ruvik created STEM with the intention of using it to create a reality of his own design so that he could be with his sister Laura Victoriano.

Dr. Marcelo Jimenez, being a long time friend of Ruvik, decided to help Ruvik out and provide him with materials and patients. Around this time, MOBIUS had made Jimenez a member and had him share his work with them. After Jimenez published Ruvik’s work, MOBIUS became interested in it and wanted to be involved. Mobius ended up putting Ruvik in a tight situation; either he finished the project, or they would remove him from the equation.
The relationship between MOBIUS and Ruvik only became worse and worse over time.

At first, STEM was such that it necessitated that subjects be plugged into the system via cord, and anyone could be hooked up to the machine. The next iteration was instead wireless, and an even later version allowed Ruvik to modify it so that only he who could operate it. Brain synchronization was the only way to access STEM. In an attempt to get around this, MOBIUS made efforts to find someone who had similar brain waves as Ruvik; this was where Leslie came in, for his ability to brain sync was identical to Ruvik. This sync was derived from experiencing specific trauma: Ruvik had lost his sister and murdered his parents, while Leslie had lost his whole family.

After this, The Administrator demanded that Ruvik fix the changes he had put in place so that capturing/using the unstable Leslie would not be necessary. When Ruvik refused, they had no other choice but to take what they needed from him and do it themselves. They killed Ruvik and took his brain, which they then placed within the center of the STEM system to act as a core, attempting to then resume testing. However, Ruvik’s lingering consciousness was slowly taking over STEM. He had turned the majority of the STEM system itself into a hellish landscape of various levels, with each subject who was attached to it having some subconscious dream-like influence, but only Ruvik was in total control of his influence. He then began to kill anyone who was sent into STEM.

Once MOBIUS realized this they had his brain removed from the core. Though they thought they had gotten rid of him, they soon learned that Ruvik’s consciousness was still present within STEM — its state as a hellscape persisted. Jimenez and The Administrator together devised a plan: they would send a group of people into STEM — the more «sane» individuals amongst those sent in would be used to cleanse the system and to neutralize Ruvik. They planned to send Juli Kidman in, who was already undercover as a Junior Detective, to complete this task. They also planned to send her with her two colleagues Sebastian Castellanos and Joseph Oda. They saw Sebastian as a threat due to him getting closer to the truth and finding out about them, and sent Joseph to ensure that they left no loose ends.

Jimenez wanted to prove himself useful by defying his orders and attempting to complete the task himself — desperately he craved to make Mobius see his worth, letting him potentially rise higher in their ranks. He activated the wireless STEM switch himself when the police, including the detectives arrived at Beacon Mental Hospital. This is where the game began. Turning on the wireless machine caused everyone in the area to be dragged into STEM. However, the effect was slow in fully taking effect. Seizing the opportunity, Ruvik used the small period where reality and the mindscape blurred: he manifested in the hospital and killed the entire police squad before wounding Jimenez. Within STEM already (though obviously failing to realise this), the detectives found the doctor and desperately attempted to escape from the hospital in an ambulance. It was too late, however, as STEM had overcome the delay and had fully taken effect, dragging everyone into the mindscape beyond. They were all trapped inside of STEM.

(In the DLC, it shows the sinister application of the system in controlling human’s subconsciousness through a high-pitched frequency emitting from the system.)

Обращённый О’Нил (Lost O’Neal)

https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2Ff7JbFBq4NAo%3Fref%3Dvgtimes.ru
