Plants (plants vs. zombies: battle for neighborville)

Glitches (Archived)

  • After the first server update, the level progress bar was unintentionally hidden under the score bar. This was fixed in the 15.1 update.
  • During the Graveyard Trick ‘Grave Danger!’, a gravestone can rise on a tile occupied by a plant. The plant will function normally, but Plant Food and Tacos can’t be used on it until the gravestone has been destroyed.
  • Under unknown conditions, the game can softlock at the end of the stage. This can be fixed either by digging up plants or force closing the game.
  • When a player tried to donate seeds in their club, a pop-up that said ‘Donation has expired’ would cancel the action and temporally remove the seed request from the player’s list. This glitch was fixed in the second server update.
  • When a Crossing Guard throws a road cone onto a male Browncoat Zombie’s head, the male zombie has a chance to become a female.
  • Sometimes, after a battle when the lawn is full, you can still hear the plants making sounds.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time

Trivia

Art style of Plants vs. Zombies Adventures

  • It appears that the art style for this game was originally going to be the one in Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, as shown on a beta gameplay photo shown on the right, but ultimately took on a more cartoonish art style resembling the one in Plants vs. Zombies 2.
  • The icon of the 1.0.11 update marked the first time where a plant (Green Shadow) was featured on the game’s icon instead of a zombie (Super Brainz).
  • The sound effect for gems being added is the same as some sound effects from the Bejeweled series, another game from PopCap.
  • As noted by the official website and game description game wise, this is the first mobile game where you can play as both the plants and the zombies.
  • Whenever a legendary card is played, the opposing hero will have a shocked or surprised expression different from their hurt or low health expression.
  • All of the new playable characters in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 appear in this game as heroes, with the exception of Kernel Corn and Captain Deadbeard, who appear as a legendary fighter and token fighter respectively.
  • If your Hero obtains one of his/her superpowers at the beginning, the Super-Blocks later won’t give him/her that superpower again. This means that each superpower can only be used once per game without Thinking Cap, Quazar Wizard, or Bird of Paradise. Interestingly, there are three Super-Blocks available, and one superpower is awarded at the beginning, it means that you can get all four superpowers in a game via a different way.
  • When your Hero is low on health (5 or less health), the current theme changes to a suspenseful, drastic one, still keeping the same melody.
    • Similarly, when the battle progresses, as well as when one hero takes some damage, the music will slightly change, usually becoming more suspenseful as the match goes on.
    • If the player has 5 more health than your opponent, then the music will be high pitched. It will be pitched even more higher if the player has 10 more health than your opponent. It will be more dramatic if the player has 10 less health than your opponent.
  • When it comes to the cards, most of the plants will be facing right, and all of the zombies will be facing left. This makes sense as plants would look right to shoot at zombies coming in from the right in many of their games.
  • In this game, the zombies don’t target brains. Instead, it is used as currency to play zombie cards and tricks, similarly to how brains are used as the zombies’ currency in Versus Mode in Plants vs. Zombies.
  • A few classes and a hero have a code name different from their original name:
    • Crazy is mentioned as Madcap.
    • Mega-Grow is mentioned as MegaGro.
    • The Smash is mentioned as Gargantuar.
  • If you scroll up in the Collections menu, there is a Wall-Nut hanging upside-down.

Currency

This game had four different currencies:

  1. Coins. These were periodically generated by town buildings. Planting a plant in the planter boxes in town costed coins. More advanced plants costed more coins.

  2. Zombucks
. These were dropped by zombies, and were given to the player as rewards for completing quests and beating stages in road-trip mode. Zombucks were used in town mode to buy and upgrade buildings, place decorations, clean up the town and summon zombies.

  3. Gems
. These were purchased with real money, and could be converted to the various resources at a predetermined ratio. Gems were also used to expedite wait times for constructing or upgrading buildings.

  4. Sun
. These dropped in battles against zombies from the sky, and are periodically created by Sunflowers. Sun did not carry over across battles.

Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time. Также есть режим RPG, как и в игре Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars.

Trivia

  • In an interview with The Verge, Executive Producer Curt Bererton said that «Figuring out a core combat that would allow players to defend their towns in interesting ways, while also being a truly fun standalone experience, took a lot of iteration. We prototyped 11 different variants of combat: some were very traditional path-based tower defenses where the zombies did not attack the plants, but we felt this lost some of the appeal of the original game.»
  • Even though Plants vs. Zombies 2 is considered to be the sequel to Plants vs. Zombies, this was the second Plants vs. Zombies game released.
  • During the time when the game was first released starting on June 10, 2013, users that play Zuma Blitz (another Facebook game created by PopCap) who try Plants vs. Zombies Adventures will recieve a pack of 25 Zuma Blitz Candy Leis for free.
  • PopCap gave the users 100,000 gems as a gift for the game shutting down.
  • This is the first game that introduced human characters other than Crazy Dave on-screen.
    • Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is currently the only other game to introduce human NPCs other than Dave
    • However, the Plants vs. Zombies Comics do feature other human characters.
  • This is the first, and so far only game, to not have Flag Zombie in it.
  • This is the first game not to have Dr. Zomboss in it. He would have most likely appeared had the game not been shut down.
  • An art style similar to this game’s was used in an early stage of Plants vs. Zombies Heroes.
  • One of the Zombie Groans used for this game was used for the Pirate Seas zombies.

History

Plants vs. Zombies Social Edition failed to compete with a similar ripoff game called Plants vs. Zombies Online (not to be confused with the official game with the same name), also known as Plants Gone Wild in English versions of the game. PopCap Shanghai thought Online was more successful because it was much more local to Chinese audiences compared to Social Edition. In response to this they made Plants vs. Zombies: Great Wall Edition as a more local approach towards Chinese players on Plants vs. Zombies. Later, PopCap Shanghai teamed up with Tencent Games to make their own take on Plants vs. Zombies Online, using the exact same name, and improving off of criticism they had of the original Online, such as the game having little proper gameplay with having no sort of player interaction during battles, making the stats of the player’s plants being the only deciding factor of who would win. The main gameplay of Plants Gone Wild most likely inspired Adventure Mode. Some of the zombies from Plants Gone Wild also appear as cameos.

Изначально предполагалось назвать игру «Lawn of the Dead»(рус.

Trivia

The three Pool ambush zombies together. Note the seaweed around them.

  • In the new iOS version, the player will receive the bacon at Level 3-4 instead of the car keys because they already had the keys in 2-2 for the Bonus Games.
  • Dancing Zombies will only be able to summon three Backup Dancers, as a fourth would be impossible to summon inside the Pool.

In the Xbox Live Arcade version, there are no ladders leading to the Pool area, but instead, the zombies destroy the fence.

  • If a Ducky Tube Zombie

At this point, it loses its ducky tube.

is killed before it enters the pool, it will fall onto the surface of the pool just as a normal zombie will do on the lawn.

  • The pool music is remixed for the music video Zombies on Your Lawn.
  • If a Balloon Zombie is shot down by a Cactus or Cattail above the Pool, the zombie will simply disappear, as it has nothing to stay afloat.

If an Ice-shroom is timed right when the final flag of a level starts, the ambush zombies will not emerge.

  • If the player tries to plant a non-aquatic plant in the water without a Lily Pad, a message will come up, saying: «Plant a Lily Pad first». The same thing happens with Cattail.
  • The pool is the only area in the game with no canceled mini-games.
  • There is a track in Bloons Tower Defense 4 iOS named Monkeys vs. Bloons, a parody of Plants vs. Zombies. This track is based on the Pool levels.
  • Like Day, all of the Pool plants reappear in Plants vs. Zombies 2.
  • Snorkel Zombie is the only Zombie from this area to return in Plants vs. Zombies 2.

Plants vs. Zombies.
Plants vs. Zombies Adventures.

Trivia

  • For whatever reason, in old versions of Plants vs. Zombies 2 (Chinese version), Snapdragon had squinted eyes. This was eventually removed and Snapdragon gained his appearance in the international version.
  • Snapdragon is one of two spawnables to be promoted from a spawnable to playable in the shooter games, the other being Wildflower

Snapdragon is the only potted plant spawnable to be made playable.

    .

  • According to Torchwood’s Plants vs. Zombies 2 entry, the two are good friends and hang out at either a Tiki Lounge or Renaissance Faire.
  • Snapdragon in Plants vs. Zombies 3 has changed genders twice, starting off female, then being changed to a male due to «miscommunication» then being changed back to a female.

History

Plants vs. Zombies 2

Main article: Snapdragon (PvZ2)

Snapdragon first appears in Plants vs. Zombies 2, unlocked after beating Day 3 of Pirate Seas. He costs 150 sun and attacks by unleashing flames in a 3×2 area of ahead of him while his Plant Food ability has him fly upwards and release a powerful burst of fireballs, dealing heavy damage in a 3×3 area ahead of him.

He is in the Pepper-mint family, who boosts his damage to 180 DPS and his Plant Food’s damage to 4,400 DPS. He also has an achievement related to him, Dragon Age, which simply requires 10 Snapdragons to be planted in a single level.

A similar plant, Cold Snapdragon is a premium plant. He is like Snapdragon, costing the same amount of sun (100 more in the Chinese version) with the same range, but also has a chilling effect in his attacks. Unlike Snapdragon, due to his ice effects, he is in the Winter-mint family.

Plants vs. Zombies: Journey to the West (China only) (Archived content)

Main article: Snapdragon (PvZ: JttW)

Snapdragon was brought into Plants vs. Zombies: Journey to the West, a Chinese-only version of Plants vs. Zombies as a premium plant. Snapdragon was drastically different in this game, with a new design, costing 200 sun, having a slow recharge and only attacking 3 tiles ahead of him. However, he had the rare chance of releasing a powerful burst of fire in a 3×3 area ahead of him, like his Plant Food ability in Plants vs. Zombies 2.

Garden Warfare series

Main article: Snap Dragon

Snap Dragon makes a return in the Garden Warfare series as a Potted Plant. Like the main games, he fires a burst of flames ahead of him, burning any zombie hit by the flames using his Flame Breath.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare gives him a variant, the Cat Dragon. This variant is purely cosmetic and doesn’t change anything about how they work, but does have a unique description.

Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars (China only) (Archived content)

Main article: Dragon line

Snapdragon next appeared in the Chinese-exclusive turn-based game Plants vs. Zombies: All Stars as the second plant in the Dragon line, evolving from Lizard Grass and evolving into Twin-Headed Snapdragon. He specialized in damaging column-wide groups of enemies with fireballs.

His active ability was Firestorm which had him rush to the closest enemy to deal damage in a 1×3 area, dealing 20% more damage if the enemy has been buttered while his passive ability was Powdermouth, which let Firestorm set enemies on fire for three turns, which dealt 74 damage to the burnt enemy every turn.

His soulmates were members of the Boomerang line for a health boost, members of the Electric Grass line for a strength boost, and members of the Coffee line and Hazelnut line together for a higher critical hit chance.

Plants vs. Zombies Heroes

Main article: Snapdragon (PvZH)

Snapdragon also appears in the turn-based mobile card game Plants vs. Zombies Heroes as a Super-Rare plant in the Smarty class. He is a Dragon Flower with 3/3 and .

Snapdragon in this game has his wings, which previously were only included in his Plant Food effect. This detail was brought back in Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville.

Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville

Main article: Snapdragon (PvZ: BfN)

Snapdragon next appears in Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, promoted for a potted plant to a playable character, the only potted plant to receive this honor. He is an Attack class who specializes in close range fire damage, but can zoom in to fire a fireball ahead of him, giving him slight range. Along with this, he can also slightly hover in the air by holding the jump button, similar to Rose.

His abilities are Swoop Slam, which has him fly up before divebombing ahead of him, the only attack Snapdragon has that doesn’t have fire damage naturally, Blue Blazes, which fires a fireball that homes in on the nearest zombie, and Blazing Trail, which unleashes a blazing wall of fire ahead of him.

Plants vs. Zombies 3

Main article: Snapdragon (PvZ3)

Snapdragon’s latest appearance is in Plants vs. Zombies 3. She is an Epic Scrapper plant, costing 7 sun and once again attacking in a 3×2 area ahead of her, damaging up to 6 zombies (at level 1) in each row.

Her Plant Food ability is Dragonfire, which spits out a damaging fireball in a 3×3 area ahead of her like her Plants vs. Zombies 2 Plant Food and her Tacobility is Dragonflight, which grants her wings, letting her attack farther and hurt flying zombies.

Upgrades

Plant Food effect

Plant Food ability (animated)

When fed with Plant Food, Chomper will unleash a high intensity wind that will drag the three nearest zombies to it and then push the surviving zombies away by releasing a burp.

If it pulls in any inedible zombies, it will deal 1000 damage per shot to those zombies. In the Chinese version, it will pull in only two zombies instead of three.

Enforce-mint effect

When boosted by Enforce-mint, Chomper’s chew time is reduced to 1.5 seconds, and it can devour an additional 6 zombies before chewing.
